During a recent assessment in Sejong, a farm had mounted PDUs every 42 cm to match their previous generation of lower-power units. The new 0.08 TH/s ASICs drew enough current that adjacent outlets shared heat through the PDU housing.

The Measurement

We logged surface temperature on three PDU models at 30 cm, 40 cm, and 50 cm spacing with identical load per outlet. At 30 cm spacing, the middle PDU ran 11°C hotter than ambient after four hours. At 50 cm, the difference dropped to 4°C.

Cable Length Trade-off

Wider PDU spacing means longer stock cables from miner to outlet. Most 0.08 TH/s units ship with 1.2 m leads. At 50 cm PDU spacing in a standard 42U rack, you need either custom-length cables or a short vertical drop tray between miner and PDU.

Our Standard Recommendation

For 0.08 TH/s-class ASICs in air-cooled rows, mount PDUs at 48–50 cm centres on the cold-aisle side. Pair with vertical trays so excess cable length coils in the tray rather than behind the miner.

Exception: Immersion Rows

Immersion tanks often mount PDUs on the tank frame itself. Spacing follows tank manufacturer guidelines; our audit checks that coolant lines do not cross power feeds at the same tray level.
